Now Houdini Estate is a great historic (though not original) venue full of amazing souvenirs, pictures, and memories about the talent and personality of the famous illusionist.

The main mansion building itself was burned by a fire in 1959 and was rebuilt after and open to the public. Probably, Houdini’s wife also lived in the cottage some years after Houdini’s death. The owner of the main house was Houdini’s friend Ralf Walker. In 1919, he and his wife just rented a guest cottage next to a grand mansion of the property. However, he never lived in the mansion on Laurel Canyon Boulevard in LA. He was successful enough to be able to afford luxurious homes such as his house in New York. Harry Houdini after whom the property is named was a world-famous magician and illusionist performing his escape acts in the 1900-the 1910s. It has on-site parking for 80 cars and up to 150 cars with a valet. It is just 6 minutes from Sunset Boulevard, 10 minutes from Beverly Hills, and 13 minutes from Universal Studios.Ĭoming here, you will see a historic stately mansion with well-cared gardens able to host really lavish celebrations: more than 1,500 persons outdoors. I searched out someone I knew could handle a non-traditional wedding and she blew it out of the park. The Houdini Estate is a 5-acre property located in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles, on the Laurel Canyon Blvd. I also knew I couldn't produce my vision on my own, so hiring the right wedding planner for me was KEY. It's not something I do well in my normal life, but somehow I mastered it for the wedding and it was so worth it. I learned to stay true to myself and have the oh-shit moments and then immediately let them go. What was your most important lesson learned? It was the hottest day of May topping over 90 at 4pm, so unfortunately one of the memorial cakes melted! We had a beautiful cake/donut/memorial table. We combined some light salads with BBQ and a seafood boil. We also wanted to make sure that our food was something we actually like to eat, so we catered from our all-time favorite restaurant, Boneyard Bistro. I know for a fact that flowers would have taken a back seat had we not been this lucky. We are lucky in that our family owns a florist so our reception was covered in the most beautiful flowers.

We had a friend perform a personal and non-religious ceremony. Martens and found a blue velvet pair to wear. I walked down the aisle to The The's “This is the Day.” I love Dr. The groomsmen and flower girls walked to the ceremony location to Matt and Kim's “Hey Now” which got everyone pumped up and allowed us to include a more upbeat couples song. Our videographer sporting his very own GoPro was our husky, Vox! We also support a local Husky rescue and wanted that to be included in our day. We hired an amazing magician and had candles everywhere. As the entire estate was an homage to Harry Houdini, we also wanted to reflect magic elements in our day. We picked a location that matched our personalities.

We aren't into religion or the typical traditions, and we wanted our wedding to reflect that. Offbeat partner: Alex, Video Game Designerĭate and location of wedding: Houdini Estate, Los Angeles, CA - Our offbeat wedding at a glance:
